If you didn’t catch Vito Corleone’s funeral in theaters chances are the original Ford Capri’s glory days are lost on you. For those who do remember the Capri from its 1970’s and 1980’s heyday, the 2024 model might be a head-scratcher. Instead of the two-door coupe that once epitomized the European pony car, today’s Capri is a mid-size electric crossover sharing the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform with the Europe-market Explorer EV.

Extended range models
At launch in the UK, the Capri will come in two “Extended Range” models. The base model features 282 horsepower single-motor rear-wheel drive offering up to 390 miles of WLTP-tested range. It boasts a 77-kWh battery pack and can charge from 10-80 percent in just 28 minutes.
Premium model features
The Premium version upgrades to dual electric motors for all-wheel drive, boosting horsepower to 335. It features a slightly larger 79 kWh battery and faster 185 kW charging capability (up from 135 kW) reducing 10-80 percent charge time to 26 minutes. Despite the larger battery, the Premium model achieves a maximum range of 368 miles. Acceleration improves with the Premium model reaching 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds while the base model takes 6.4 seconds.
Enhanced interior and features
Opting for the Premium trim brings enhanced features alongside the more powerful powertrain. Inside upgrades include ambient lighting and a B&O sound system, while outside there’s a hands-free tailgate. The standard 19-inch alloys are upgraded to 20-inch wheels with an option for 21-inch wheels available for both models. The Ford Capri’s interior draws inspiration from the electric Explorer, featuring a 14.6-inch vertical touchscreen that slides to reveal a hidden storage compartment. The front armrest houses a 0.6 cubic foot MegaConsole.”
Availability and pricing
Produced in Cologne, Germany, the Capri won’t be available in the United States. In the UK, pricing starts at $61,731 for the standard model based on current exchange rates, while opting for the Premium trim raises the total to $66,995.
