In the latest development of EV startup Fisker’s bankruptcy saga, the automaker has agreed to sell its remaining inventory of Ocean SUV’s to a leasing firm. As per a filing made on Tuesday, July 2, Fisker will sell the remaining 3,231 Ocean SUV’s to American Lease, a New York-based company that leases vehicles to ride-share users.
American Lease has agreed to purchase each Ocean SUV for an amount ranging from $2,500 to $16,500, contingent upon the condition of the vehicle. Damaged vehicles will be priced at the lower end of this range, while previously titled Oceans will be sold for around $3,200. Fisker’s filing indicates that out of the 3,231 SUV’s available, 2,711 are in “Good Working Order” and will be sold at the highest price of $16,500. Although the final details of the sale are still pending, the total amount is capped at $46,250,000.

Although the final details of the sale are still pending, the total amount is capped at $46,250,000.
To put those vehicle prices into perspective, the Ocean SUV initially launched with a starting price of just under $40,000 for the base Sport model, climbing to over $70,000 for the top-of-the-line Extreme variant. In March, Fisker attempted to avoid bankruptcy by reducing these prices by up to $24,000, but the effort was ultimately unsuccessful.
Need to Fast-Track
The bulk sale of the remaining SUVs hinges on meeting specific conditions, including court approval. Fisker has requested the court’s authorization for the sale, with a hearing scheduled for July 9. The filing indicates that if the sale is not approved by July 12, the automaker will be unable to cover essential expenses like payroll and taxes, making an expedited sale necessary.
The filing also includes details about long-term support for the vehicles. According to the documents, Fisker will not be honoring warranties for this deal, stating that “Fisker shall have no obligation of repair or maintenance.” Car and Driver contacted Fisker’s head of communications, Matthew Debord, for clarification on what warranty coverage existing Ocean owners can expect. Debord responded, stating, “We have no further comment beyond what is included in our filings at this time.”
In a surprising development, the filing reveals that while Fisker will not be responsible for updating the vehicles beyond software version V.2.1, the company will still provide American Lease with “This clause is crafted to guarantee the operational integrity of the vehicles, along with all pertinent source code or proprietary software components, encompassing any existing developer contributions. This clause is intended for ensuring the operability of the Vehicles and any other Fisker vehicles that American Lease may own or acquire, and enabling post-transaction software improvements to the Vehicles.
