Mercedes-Benz continues to pursue its electric offensive.

So far, Mercedes’ electric strategy has not been successful. However, CEO Ola Källenius sees no reason to change the policy. Still, he calls for long-term political support.

Frankfurt. Despite sluggish demand, Mercedes-Benz remains committed to its chosen path in electric mobility. “Mercedes has continued its electric offensive and has not delayed it,” said CEO Ola Källenius in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung on Friday.

By the end of this decade, the automaker aims to cover all vehicle segments, remaining steadfast in its commitment despite not meeting the expectations set five years ago.

“We are fully committed to decarbonization,” stated the CEO. However, Källenius also called for long-term incentives for electric vehicle purchases, warning that without such measures, customers could become confused.

Given the challenging conditions in the German automotive industry and Volkswagen’s strict cost-cutting strategies, Källenius believes Mercedes will also need to tighten its belt, including on staffing. “We always take demographics and turnover into account, and during restructuring, we use measures like severance packages,” he explained, ruling out layoffs for economic reasons. “We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to this.”
