VW aims to launch eight affordable EV’s by 2027
Volkswagen intends to shake up the electric vehicle (EV) space with an aggressive strategy
for releasing not one, two or three new EV’s but eight more affordable models by 2027. The
project aims to bring electric mobility to a wider spectrum of customers, and at the same time
ensure that each model remains profitable for the brand.
Inexpensive EV’s from Volkswagen
Thomas Schaefer has made clear in a recent interview with German media that the project
serves as VW’s laboratory for producing both profitable and affordable EV’s. We need to
manufacture our cars in a profitable manner and we must bring them at competitive prices
At the top of this range would be the ID. 2all hatchback, a fast-developing model with its
development timeline slashed from 50 months down to just 36 for launch in 2025.
Key features of ID.2all
Priced under €25,000 (approximately $27,000), the ID.2all is designed to offer up to 450
kilometers on a single charge. Equipped with advanced tech like Travel Assist and an
upgraded infotainment system, this model positions itself as a competitive choice in the
EV market.
Future models and target pricing
In addition to the ID. VW 2all, Volkswagen could be planning an ever more affordable entry-
level car costing $21,995 or less. The 2021 ID.4 is one of the vehicles made at this facility,
and it is possible that a future vehicle will borrow some styling cues from its design (shown
below). Life configuration, based on a simplified variant of the MEB (Modular Electrification
Toolkit) platform from Volkswagen. It remains to be seen which U.S. models will get
similar support, but Volkswagen is targeting an EV priced below $35,000 in the country by
2027.
Strategy for the U.S. Market
By 2026, Volkswagen plans to launch ten new electric vehicles as part of its efforts for EV’s
to represent 80% sales share in Europe by the end-2027. It has quite the ambition too,
looking to be zero emissions by 2030. The ID. All 2all models will use the recently
introduced MEB Entry platform for low-cost but still high-performance and tech-specification
compliance.
Sustainability commitment
And Volkswagen has more in mind besides a lineup of new models. That could make each
eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit (if built in the U.S.). That plan not only broadens
VW’s lineup but also adds more depth to its status as a leader in green transportation.
Conclusion
The company’s commitment to affordable EV’s brings us one step closer towards making
electric vehicles more accessible. Being a more affordable and efficient electric car with
exceptional features, the brand can surely level up its EV space for creating sustainability in
the future of transportation.
