BYD sold 440,293 new-energy vehicles worldwide in August 2026 — up 17.84% year-on-year and its strongest monthly total of the year — with battery-electric deliveries reaching 256,230 units, the first time BYD has sold more than 250,000 pure-electric vehicles in a single month, while overseas shipments hit a new record of 189,466 units, a 134% year-on-year rise representing 43% of total sales.

BYD delivered 440,293 new-energy vehicles in August 2026, up 17.84% year-on-year and the brand's highest monthly total of the year so far, according to data released on 1 September. The result marks a fourth consecutive month of year-on-year growth after a period of declining sales earlier in 2026.

The most significant milestone within the August total was the BEV figure: 256,230 battery-electric passenger cars were delivered in a single month, the first time BYD has cleared the 250,000 mark on pure-electric vehicles alone. Plug-in hybrid deliveries accounted for the remainder of the NEV passenger total.

Overseas shipments continued their record-breaking run. International deliveries reached 189,466 units in August, up 134.45% year-on-year and 4.95% above July's previous record, accounting for 43.03% of total monthly sales. Domestic China sales stood at 250,827, down 14.34% year-on-year, continuing the pressure on BYD's home market from intensifying domestic competition.

Through the first eight months of 2026, BYD has delivered 1,162,260 vehicles outside China, up 85.72% year-on-year. The company is tracking well ahead of its stated target of 1.5 million international deliveries for the full year 2026 — a target that was already raised from an earlier figure of 1.3 million.
