Ionity Opens First Urban Fast-Charging Hub in London With 12 Bays Delivering Up to 400 kW
Ionity launched its first urban charging site in London on 19 August 2026 — 12 bays rated at up to 400 kW each at Greenwich Shopping Park, near the O2 Arena — marking the network's second UK urban hub and the first in a planned pipeline of ultra-rapid inner-city locations across the British capital.
Ionity opened its first urban charging hub in London on 19 August 2026, at Greenwich Shopping Park on Bugsby's Way — a busy retail and leisure destination close to the O2 Arena and Greenwich Peninsula. The 12-bay site delivers up to 400 kW per stall, enabling rapid top-ups for drivers in South London.
The Greenwich hub is the first step in what Ionity describes as "a pipeline of ultra-rapid charging hubs" planned for London, with further urban sites under development in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. It is the network's second UK urban location, following a site opened in Birmingham's Aston district in February 2026. By 2030, Ionity aims for around 30% of its global network to be situated in dense urban environments, complementing the motorway-corridor model that defined its initial expansion.
The Greenwich site is integrated into Ionity's partnership with Uber: Uber drivers receive preferential charging rates, and real-world utilisation data from the site will inform the selection of future urban hub locations. To mark the opening, Ionity offered free charging for 24 hours on 21 August 2026. Ionity currently operates more than 5,000 charging points at over 600 stations across Europe.
