Ford Recalls 86,543 Mustang Mach-E EVs Over Rear Window Trim That May Detach at Speed

· Daniël Paaij

Ford is recalling 86,543 Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers from model years 2023 to 2025 in the United States because rear side quarter-window glass trim pieces may not be properly bonded and could detach while driving, posing a road hazard to other motorists.

Ford announced a safety recall covering 86,543 Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers from model years 2023 to 2025 in the United States, affecting rear side quarter-window glass trim that may not be properly bonded. Improperly secured trim pieces could detach while the vehicle is moving, posing a road hazard to other road users.

Ford began investigating on 4 May 2026 after a spike in warranty claims. Through 21 July 2026 the company identified 219 relevant reports in the United States and US federal territories — warranty claims received between July 2023 and April 2026. Ford states it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect. The root cause was traced to a new assembly jig that prevented the rear side quarter-window trim primer from curing adequately before the glass was fitted.

As a remedy, dealers will inspect the rear side quarter-window glass trim and replace the assembly where needed, at no charge to the owner. Dealer notifications are scheduled between 3 and 7 September 2026; customer notification letters are expected to be mailed between 10 and 14 September 2026.

The recall is separate from an earlier 2026 recall of 42,784 model-year 2021 to 2023 Mustang Mach-E vehicles covering a rear differential pinion shaft that may fracture.
