GM Recalls 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq Electric SUVs Over Third-Row Seat That Could Trap a Child
General Motors has recalled 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq electric SUVs — 13,629 from the 2026 model year and 911 from 2027 — because the power-folding third-row seatback may fail to reverse when it detects an occupant, potentially trapping a child.
General Motors issued a safety recall on 6 July 2026 covering 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq all-electric SUVs in the United States — 13,629 model-year 2026 and 911 model-year 2027 vehicles. The defect involves the power-folding third-row seatback module: when the power-fold feature is activated and an occupant or object is on the seat, the seatback may fail to detect the obstruction and will not automatically reverse direction as required by safety standards. NHTSA documents warn that a child or smaller person could become trapped under the folding seatback, increasing the risk of injury. GM identified the defect internally after a safety engineer reviewed a comparable recall that Hyundai issued in March 2026 for the 2026 Palisade SUV. GM had already halted shipments of 2027 Cadillac Vistiq vehicles on 8 June 2026 pending investigation. As an interim remedy, dealers will disable the power-folding third-row seat function at no cost to the owner; once a replacement seat-control module becomes available, the feature will be reinstated in a subsequent dealer visit, also free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed beginning 3 August 2026.
