Norway registered 18,875 battery-electric vehicles in June 2026, giving EVs a 96.5% share of all new passenger car registrations, according to data published on 1 July 2026. Total passenger car registrations across all powertrains in June reached 19,558, a 6.4% increase year-on-year. The June share is slightly below the 97.8% peak recorded in May 2026 but is virtually unchanged from the 96.8% seen in June 2025. In the first half of 2026, battery-electric vehicles accounted for 97.6% of all new passenger car registrations in Norway, up from 93.7% in H1 2025. The country also crossed a symbolic threshold in June: Norway's cumulative battery-electric vehicle fleet surpassed one million vehicles, accumulated over more than a decade of consistent policy support. Norway has led the world in EV market-share adoption for over a decade, driven by comprehensive tax exemptions on purchase and ownership, toll-road and ferry privileges, and a dense public charging network. The remaining sub-4% combustion share is concentrated in commercial light vehicles, full-size vans and niche applications where no direct electric alternative currently exists.
