Lucid Recalls 27,185 Air Sedans Over Exterior Lighting Fire Risk and Advises Owners to Park Outside

Lucid Motors is recalling 27,185 Air luxury sedans built between 2021 and 2026 after NHTSA determined that a faulty software-controlled eFuse in the exterior lighting circuit provides insufficient overcurrent protection, creating a risk of overheating, smoke or fire; the remedy is an over-the-air software update already delivered to most affected vehicles.
Lucid Motors is recalling 27,185 Air sedans in the United States — effectively nearly every vehicle the company has produced — after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determined that the cars carry a latent fire risk. The recall covers model years 2022 through 2026, built between 11 October 2021 and 27 July 2026.
The defect lies in the software logic governing a low-voltage eFuse that protects the circuits powering the Air's exterior lights. When the eFuse malfunctions, the circuit can remain energised under fault conditions and overheat, creating a risk of melting wiring, smoke, or a vehicle fire. Loss of exterior lighting caused by the fault also increases the risk of a crash. Lucid had identified three confirmed fires and four smoke events related to the defect before the recall was announced on 28 August 2026.
The remedy is an over-the-air software update — version 2.10.0 — that lowers the applicable eFuse protection threshold and disables retry logic that could re-energise a faulted circuit within the same key cycle. Lucid deployed the update to 20,719 of the 27,185 affected vehicles before the recall was formally filed. Owners who have not yet received the update are advised to park their vehicle outside and away from structures until the fix is applied. The recall is the largest in Lucid's history.
