BYD recorded 376,990 total vehicle sales in May 2026, its first year-on-year increase since August 2025, with overseas deliveries reaching a record 160,644 units as international expansion offsets weakening domestic demand.
BYD achieved its first year-on-year sales increase in eight months in May 2026, selling 376,990 vehicles — comprising 198,674 battery-electric vehicles and 178,316 plug-in hybrids. The result breaks a run of consecutive monthly declines that had weighed on the company since August 2025 and marks a meaningful recovery in momentum. Overseas deliveries were the standout driver, reaching a record 160,644 units in May, up 80% year-on-year and about 19% above the previous high of approximately 135,000 units set in April. For the first time, overseas sales represented more than 41% of BYD's total monthly sales, underscoring how central international markets have become to the group's growth strategy. Through the first five months of 2026, BYD sold 616,263 vehicles outside China. The surge in overseas volumes is supported by BYD's accelerating production build-out in Europe, where its Szeged plant in Hungary is ramping, and by growing distribution in the Middle East and South-East Asia. BYD targets 1.5 million international deliveries for full-year 2026.
