Megawatt Charging Goes Live for Electric Trucks Across Europe and US
· EVTrader EV News
2026 marks the arrival of the Megawatt Charging System for heavy trucks, with first deployments in Spain, Sweden, Denmark and North America and a new global interoperability standard.
The Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for heavy-duty trucks moved from pilots to deployment in 2026. MCS delivers far higher power than CCS, letting most trucks charge from 20% to 80% in roughly 30-40 minutes. In Europe, Iberdrola launched its first 1 MW MCS chargers in Murcia, Spain, while BP Pulse plans to install its first 1 MW charger at its new Ashford International Truckstop. Denmark opened a megawatt charging station for trucks in Odense, and Kempower powers Norway's first commercial MCS site as well as live MCS units at Circle K stations in Sweden. In North America, Kempower, Windrose and EV Realty completed the first charging session using a Kempower Mega Satellite MCS. Daimler Truck is preparing to deliver its first MCS-enabled eActros 600 units. Standardisation advanced too: CharIN published IEC TS 63379 in February 2026, establishing global interoperability rules including standardized pin and contact design and specific safety requirements for MCS hardware.
