Beijing Benz is recalling 19,481 locally produced Mercedes EQA and EQB electric vehicles in China due to a high-voltage battery fire risk, with high-voltage batteries to be replaced from 25 June 2026.
Beijing Benz, Mercedes-Benz's joint venture in China, is recalling 19,481 locally produced EQA and EQB electric vehicles because of a fire risk linked to their high-voltage batteries, according to reporting published on 16 February 2026. The recall is scheduled to begin on 25 June 2026, and Beijing Benz will replace the high-voltage batteries in affected vehicles through authorised dealers. The action reflects continued scrutiny of high-voltage battery safety on Mercedes' compact EQ-series models, which have faced repeated battery-related recalls in multiple markets. In the United States, the EQB has been recalled separately for internal short-circuit risk, with nearly 12,000 vehicles slated to receive new batteries. The Chinese recall underscores the regulatory pressure on automakers to address potential internal battery faults that could lead to short circuits and fires, even as manufacturers expand their electric line-ups across global markets.
