Volkswagen and Elli to Launch Vehicle-to-Grid Offer in Q4 2026

Volkswagen's energy arm Elli will roll out a fully integrated vehicle-to-grid service for private customers in Germany in Q4 2026, with pre-registration opening in June.
Volkswagen and its energy subsidiary Elli announced a fully integrated vehicle-to-grid (V2G) offering for private customers in Germany, set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026, with pre-registration opening in June 2026 and expansion to other European markets planned. The move makes 2026 a breakthrough year for bidirectional charging as the technology enters the mainstream. A key enabler is regulatory: the German Parliament abolished double grid fees, the main obstacle to V2G, making bidirectional charging economically viable in Germany for the first time starting in 2026. European EVs commonly use the Combined Charging System (CCS), which is now being developed with bidirectional capability via the ISO 15118 standard. Other manufacturers are moving in parallel: Mercedes-Benz announced bidirectional charging for the new electric GLC via its MB.CHARGE Home setup with The Mobility House. The shift turns parked EVs into grid assets, letting owners feed stored energy back to the grid or power their homes and potentially earn revenue from balancing services.
