Volkswagen Group recalls about 94,000 EVs over battery fire risk

· EVTrader EV News

Volkswagen Group is recalling roughly 94,000 electric vehicles globally, including ID models and the Cupra Born, due to faulty high-voltage battery modules that may reduce range or pose a fire risk.

Volkswagen Group has issued a recall covering about 94,031 electric vehicles worldwide over potentially faulty high-voltage battery modules, according to reporting on 24 March 2026. The recall affects roughly 74,579 Volkswagen ID models, including the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.Buzz, built between June 2023 and August 2024, along with 19,452 Cupra Born vehicles produced between February 2022 and April 2024. The defect involves non-compliant modules in the high-voltage battery that could limit driving range or, in a separate US recall notice, potentially overheat and increase the risk of a fire. As a remedy, Volkswagen says it will inspect the battery modules and install software updates, replacing individual high-voltage modules where necessary. The action adds to a series of EV battery recalls across the industry and follows earlier ID.4 fire-risk issues that prompted customer charging restrictions and a class-action lawsuit in the United States.
